Penn Yan, NY Accomodations...

Good Morning and Welcome back to Bathroom Blues Travel Blog,

Today I'd like to share with you our accomodations while in Penn Yan, NY.

We arrived on Tuesday, July 28th and went straight to our friend, Penny Carlton's house. Penny then showed us the way to the cabin we would stay in for most of our time there.

Located minutes away from Keuka Lake, Hammondsport and Penn Yan, Hidden Hideaway II was lovely and comfortable.

If you know me at all, you know my dream home is a log cabin. Although Hidden Hideaway II was not log on the outside, all this beautiful wood inside warmed my heart!

The hostess made sure we had plenty of coffee and snacks as well as towels, washcloths and other ammenities.

When we arrived, we were informed that we would need to find other accomodations on Augst 1st (the day we had our booksigning at The Windmill) but only for 1 night.

By sheer luck, or a miracle, as finding hotels, motels or B&B's with rooms available at a reasonable price this time of year in this highly visited area, is like finding a needle in a haystack.

However, we managed to grab the only double room available at Vinehurst Inn and Suites.

As a reader and writer, the old adage, "Never judge a book by it's cover," came into play when we drove up to this hotel.

I didn't get photos of the outside, but believe me when I say, I had some reservations about staying there. Until I walked into the room!

Does the word, 'retro' mean anything to you?

We could tell by the kitchenette and decor this hotel was built in way back when. In actuality the 1960s!

This room was immaculately clean - even with a "sanitized" strip on the toilet seat. It smelled as clean as it looked and the bed was very comfortable, the full bath spacious and the price reasonable.

If you're ever headed to Keuka, Hammondsport or Penn Yan, NY I highly recommend both of these places to rest between road trips around the area!

Next week we'll continue with our outings while in NY. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoyed today's post and that you'll check back for more travel experiences.

Until then, take care and travel smart and safe!

Penn Yan, NY Day 4...

Well, it's been a crazy week. Fishing trip was fun and yes, we caught a few to cook and a few to bring home.

So now it's time to tell you about our 4th day in Penn Yan, NY.

We started the morning with coffee at Amity Coffee, downtown and right down the road from Birkett Mills AND The Keuka Candy Emporium.

What makes this a special day?

Glad you asked!

The Birkett's Mill has been in business for over 200 years and is one of the largest Buckwheat manufacturers in the world.

The original mill burned down in 1823 but they rebuilt in 1894 and is still going strong.

The mill is also known for receiving the 1987 Guinness World Record for the largest pancake ever made and the griddle - which is 28' in diameter! - is on display at the mill.

The Keuka Candy Eporium is a sweet-lovers dream but what excited me the most was the restroom LOL!

Decorated in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory style, this clean, sweet place made me smile but what really made me laugh was the sign pointing to the room...

I have never seen something so cute, and YES, I grabbed some of my favorite candy while I was there. 😂

Last but not least, Amity Coffee was packed wall-to-wall with guests. Even the tables outside were full, but that didn't stop us from getting one of the best cups of coffee in Penn Yan.

Hope you enjoyed reminiscing over day 4 of our trip and that you'll check back weekly and come along for the rest of the time there.

Until later, take care, God Bless and Travel Safe!

Day 3 of Penn Yan, NY Trip FLX Service Station & Glenn Curtiss Museum

Good Morning and Welcome back to Bathroom Blues travel blog!

Our 3rd day in Penn Yann, NY was actually not in Penn Yan 😉but Hammondsport where we went to FLX Service Station - which is not a service station anymore but a chic coffee shop/cafe.

We then spent several hours at the Glenn H. Curitss Aviation Museum and learned so much about this man! A genius in his own right, Mr. Curtiss was a bicycle and motor cycle racer and an overall engineering wiz. He did more for the flying / travel industry than I was ever taught in school. One thing that truly surprised me was that he invented one of the earliest travel trailers, known as an "Aerocar."

If you ever get a chance to visit this museum or te Glenn H. Curtiss Mansion and Gardens in Miami Springs, Florida do so.

You won't be disappointed.

I mentioned in my last post how breathtaking the drive is pretty much anywhere in this area of New York. Dotted with old buildings, 1 room school houses, and gorgeous churches you can't help but breath deep, relax and enjoy the ride. Here's  a peek at it's beauty...

I hope you enjoyed today's reminiscing and that you'll check back for more here on Bathroom Blues travel blog!

Day #2 of Penn Yan, NY Trip: Seneca Farms, Yates County History Center & Oak Hill Mennonite Store

Good Morning and Welcome Back to Bathroom Blues,

Last week's post was delayed to a severe UTI so here we are with more of my trip to Penn Yan, NY.

Our second day consisted of lunch at Seneca Farms, a restaurant that has been in business for more than fifty years! The retro decor is enchanting, the bathroom had me singing a happy tune and the food was absolutely delicious. But don't over eat. You have to leave room for fresh, homemade icecream!

We then visited the Yates County History Center and Oliver House, which was quite an experience.

Jet lag had us calling it a day a bit early, but we enjoyed every moment out and about, especially our visit to Oak Hill Mennonite store where we found fresh fruit, homemade cookies and zuchinni bread, and all sorts of goodies! In fact, I ordered something special to bring home to my honey. I had to pick it up the following week but that was OK too. Nona and I wanted snacks for the airports and plane rides.

The drive to, from and all around Penn Yan & Hammondsport, NY is breathtaking. Rolling green hills and farmland covered with cabbage or corn or sunflowers fills the senes and heart with awe for God's creation.

Although, I'm pretty hooked on various types of technology, seeing a horse-drawn buggy carrying a family to and from town, or in town, made me long for yesteryears when life was simpler.

Well, that about does it for today, folks.

I hope you enjoyed today's trip down memory lane in New York and that you'll check back each week for another episode of Bathroom Blues.

Until then, happy trails.
