I returned from my trip to NY around 11:30pm on the 6th. As soon as I get my thoughts and photos organized and catch up, I'll share the entire adventure with you.

Have you ever been to the Adirondacks? No? Well, you should add it to your travel bucket list. I only remember my first trip there because of a picture. It’s an old black-and-white of me sitting on a picnic table with my dad in the background with a string of fish from Lake George. I wish I could find it. 

The reason I bring this up is that for a gazillion years I haven’t been there. Then my husband, Pete, and I started incorporating our travels and some short-term missions. 

We go and spend a few days at Camp Cedarbrook, a Christian girls’ camp. We go as a maintenance crew to repair and rebuild after the season. A small group stays at the camp, but we stay in our camper a few miles away. 

Even though it’s a work trip, we find time to laugh and sit around the campfire at night. 

I don’t know about you, but I live in Northwest NJ, and though its fairly rural, light pollution prevents seeing so much of the night sky.

On one of our first trips there, portions of the Milky Way were visible. I’d never seen that before. We saw shooting stars and satellites. Someone was always pointing out different things. 

Experiences like this could make a person feel very small and insignificant. But sharing the experience with others gives you a different kind of community. 

Our little band of campers was like the planets around the Sun. We each have a place and a role that makes the world a better place. Or we try to. 

My husband and I travel in our 5th Wheel as often as possible. Each place we stay, we look for that community that makes us not feel so small but part of a greater world.

Whether we’re in Maine or Florida or anywhere in between, I try to always look up.
